MHK: Focused on Supporting Local Doctors
Malec, Herring & Krause continues to be committed to the community and it’s dedicated doctors by providing effective psychological resources. The psychological supports can add to the treatment regimen and help address the patient’s emotional contribution to the presenting problem. In 1991, The American Institute of Stress estimated that 75-90% of visits to a PCP were for stress-related complaints. This would suggest that adding a psychological resource to your treatment plan might assist in a positive treatment outcome and/or prevent difficulties from becoming chronic.
In order to expedite and ease the referral process, we have instituted a confidential e-scheduling system that you or your staff can access while your patient is still in your office. Your patient will have an appointment scheduled before they leave your office. Simply click on the e-scheduler icon below and schedule your patient in one of the open intake appointment slots. A licensed professional counselor will contact your patient and confirm the appointment.
GROUPS
Malec, Herring & Krause has also added more supporting options for those patients you believe are appropriate. Here is a brief description of our groups and the types of patients whowould benefit:
DBT Groups: Support for mood/anxiety disordered patients, or patents with high emotional reactivity.
At the heart of DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) lies the skill of mindfulness. The participants are welcomed into an accepting and validating treatment environment, where they are offered encouragement and validation. DBT organizes treatment into four skills modules: mindfulness, emotion regulation, interpersonal skills and distress tolerance. In each module, mindfulness is the core around which the skills develop. The therapist helps the person take ownership of problem behaviors and encourages the change of those behaviors into more adaptive skills.
DBT is an evidence based treatment program developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., ABPP. It was originally developed for treatment of borderline personality disorder. Research has proven the efficacy of DBT in treatment across a variety of disorders including mood and anxiety disorders. DBT can also benefit individuals with eating disorders.
DBT & Referring: If you feel you have a patient who would benefit from developing healthier coping skills, this would be the resource for them. For questions regarding the DT skills groups, contact Susan Paganie, LPC, NCC at 724-814-4887. She is currently taking patients.
