Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is a general term that describes the interaction between a therapist and one or more individuals for the purpose of resolving, improving, replacing or managing issues that are affecting the individuals negatively.  Psychotherapy is done face-to-face with the primary focus of identifying and addressing the specific areas the individual finds problematic.  The therapist has specific training and qualifications in fasciliating the changes the individuals needs to make as well as identifying possible self-defeating patterns the person may be engaged in that is preventing them from achieving their goals.

Psychotherapy is superior to the primary use of medication for most of the issues individuals present with due to it’s ability to tailor the treatment to the unique circumstances and experiences of every person without the significant and sometimes life-threatening side effects found in many psychiatric medications.  This, coupled with the consistent and growing  evidence that psychiatric medications are often found to be equivalent to placebo makes psychotherapy a safer and more long-term solution for the individual in most cases.
